Smoke Shaft applications for residential and commercial building ventilation
A smoke ventilation shaft is one which passes through multiple levels of a building providing ventilation of a fire floor with dampers or automatic opening devices on each level.
These shafts are most often used in residential and commercial buildings to protect fire escape and fire-fighting stairs from smoke entry and to reduce smoke levels in corridors and fire-fighting lobbies.
A shaft is connected to corridors or lobbies by dampers at high level. Only the damper on the fire floor opens, providing smoke release with inlet from the stairs via a ventilator at the head of the stairs.
Smoke shafts can also be used to extend travel distances and reduce stair numbers for escape, the most efficient system for this being dual shafts, each with fully-reversible powered fan units.
A further benefit of this system is that fire fighters can override the settings so that both fans can be set to extract, allowing enhanced clearance in the fire-fighting phase.
For all Car Park Ventilation Requirments
Cosaf can provide car park ventilation systems for the removal of daily fume build ups and of smoke clearance from the effects of a fire; where the main objective is to clear the area of hazardous fumes and restore access visibility.
Induction ventilation is a method of simplifying the ducted system by ‘pushing’ the smoke and exhaust fumes to a central extract point from where it can be removed.
This is achieved by thrust units mounted under the ceiling creating a jet that pushes the smoke and exhaust fumes towards the extract point; providing both general and smoke ventilation.
As a result, the need for distribution ductwork throughout the car park is eliminated, providing a safer, lighter environment with lower power consumption.
Cosaf are at the forefront of car park ventilation technology and can utilise experience and skill to service all our clients’ car park ventilation requirements.
Stairwell pressurisation systems for the total Smoke and Fire Solution
Pressurisation is a technique of protecting escape routes against the entry of smoke by maintaining the pressure within the escape route at a higher pressure than that in the adjacent space.
Most high rise buildings employ a stairwell pressurisation system to keep the stairs clear while operating at a low enough pressure that an average person can open the doors to enter or exit the stairwell on their way to safety.
Apt in providing the total Smoke & Fire solution, Cosaf’s team of experienced designers and engineers are able to deliver a tailored service to meet your specific requirements.
