Case studies: Cirteq Ltd
Client: Cirteq Ltd
Requirement: Replace current heating system with an energy efficient system
Solution: Industrial and Commercial Heating System

Cirteq Ltd, a world leader in circlip manufacture, has exchanged its two large steam boilers for an energy saving system provided by CoSaf Environments, an award winning independent specialist designer, installer & commissioner of industrial and commercial heating. Partly funded the by the Carbon Trust, the efficient, practical and environmentally friendly heating system is on track to provide Cirteq with a payback in just four years..

After contacting the Carbon Trust and establishing that it was eligible for its 0% interest business loan for energy saving equipment, Bob Holinski, Maintenance Manager at Cirteq, looked for a company, which could provide the required design solution.

“We went out to tender but from the start CoSaf Environment got involved with the project and spent time developing a design solution that would specifically meet our requirements”, said Bob Holinski. “We awarded CoSaf the contract based on cost, expertise and technical know-how”.
CoSaf Environment’s design consists of 24-floor standing and suspended gas fired warm air heaters and nine gas-fired radiant heaters, operated with an optimised start. This energy saving feature predicts what time the heating will have to be turned on to ensure that the required temperature is reached. For example, if the heating is set at 20ºC at 8:00 am, then the optimised start system will note the external temperature and internal room temperature, and using this information will start to heat the room so that it reaches the desired temperature at the required time. The heaters provide independent heating to the various on site departments, production buildings and workshops and offer a flexibility of control previously unavailable with the steam boiler system.

In addition, CoSaf installed a dedicated boiler system comprising of a gas fired boiler plant, pressurisation system, new circulating pumps, flue dilutions and new controls to the four-storey office block. To reduce installation costs, CoSaf has utilised the existing radiators, pipework etc in the office block to provide the area with its own heating.

The new heating system provides Cirteq with a far more efficient, practical and energy efficiency solution. The substantial proportion of the cost of the heating system has been funded through the Carbon Trust interest free loan scheme.

Energy-Efficiency Loans from the Carbon Trust are a cost-effective way to replace or upgrade existing equipment with a more energy efficient version. Available to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in England and Scotland, or all businesses in Wales that have been trading for at least 12 months, they enable companies to borrow from £5,000 to £100,000. The loans are unsecured, interest free and repayable over a period of up to 4 years. Ends
